No medal races, no changes at the top

by the RS:X class (edited on: 1/3/2012)

Last day of the event today with only the medal race to be sailed. However, the weather would not be so friendly.

Some of the sailors preferred their current standing like Miarczynski, while others like Kokkalanis wanted to race!

The medal race gives double points and everything can change in the leaderboard. Except, if one has secured a large enough point difference from his fellow windsurfers, which was the case for the 5th time European Champion, Marina Alabau. Alabau had one more reason to celebrate, since this win meant her selection to represent Spain in London 2012.

In the end, the wind never came, even after hours of waiting…so, Miarczynksi is the 2012 European Champion. Kokkalanis has equal points but the tie was not in his favor. What a disappointment for the Greek! He sailed a wonderful regatta but once again was the runner up, with Myzka 3rd just in front of Mashiah.

At the womens fleet, Alabau had already won the Gold from yesterday with her safe lead, while Davidovich from Israel managed to steal the silver medal from Petaja from Finland.

Next rendezvous is in 20 days in Cadiz for the RS:X Worlds. Be there to see the next World Champions!
